Taste the Terroir – A Lake County Viticultural Experience

This incredible four-day, three-night experience for eight (four couples) showcases the diversity of Lake County’s viticultural areas, history, and spectacular scenery and kicks off in the Guenoc Valley AVA in southern Lake County. Enjoy a personal wine tasting and VIP tour of the sprawling Langtry Estate where guests will stay two nights in the fabled historic Lillie Langtry House, named for the 19th Century British actress who once called it home.

Explore the diversity of the historic 4,300-acre Six Sigma Ranch via a private Pinzgauer tour followed by a delightful ranch-to-table dinner with owner Kaj Ahlmann and his family as they share a bit of ranch history, award-winning Six Sigma wines, and a menu that features ranch-raised meat and other locally sourced provisions.

A mid-day visit through the Big Valley District, one of the country’s newest AVAs that stretches from the shores of Clear Lake through the historic farming region settled in the mid-1800s, will feature an authentic carnitas lunch at Chacewater Winery & Olive Mill, 2012’s “Golden State Winery of the Year,” an olive mill tour and olive oil tasting, plus a private wine tasting with winemaker Mark Burch.

A memorable evening in the High Valley AVA will be spent at Shannon Ridge’s Sheep Camp, a unique 1870s Western-themed guest house and grounds, where you will savor a private farm-to-table cookout featuring Shannon Ranch grass-fed lamb, followed by s’mores in the moonlight plus whiskey, moonshine, and of course Shannon Ridge wines in the Buck Shack bar.

Walk the vineyard at Hawk and Horse Vineyards, situated at 2,200 feet elevation in the Red Hills AVA, with biodynamic viticulturists and founders Tracey and Mitch Hawkins. Collect Lake County “Diamonds,” learn about biodynamic farming protocols, and enjoy a cowboy picnic with the owners and sip wine overlooking lush horse pastures. Meet the friendly herd of Scottish Highland cattle and the family’s rodeo horses. The package includes a flight of magnum bottles of Hawk and Horse Vineyards gold-medal winning Cabernet Sauvignon, vintages 2008 – 2011 autographed by Tracey Hawkins, Executive Winemaker and Founding Partner and a copy of Courting Justice authored by Founding Partner David Boies.

Dig deep into the High Valley AVA at beautiful Brassfield Estate Winery, a 2,500-acre property that includes 270 acres of vineyards, extensive wine caves, and thousand-acre wildlife preserve. Enjoy a private vineyard and cave tour before you check into the Estate Lodge for the final night’s lodging, then savor a delicious dinner specially prepared by the estate chef and paired with Brassfield Estate wines.
